Aloysius Vincent Monzel, 98, of Kalama passed away Nov. 30, 2023, at home.
He was born Oct. 9, 1925, in Webster, S.D., to Aloysius Vincent Monzel Sr., and Dorothy (Hambleton) Monzel. The family moved to Portland, Ore., in 1936 and Vince spent the majority of his life in Southern Oregon. He moved to Southwest Washington in 2013.
He married Jane Barton in Grants Pass, Ore. May 11, 1974. She survives him at home. Also surviving are two stepchildren and their spouses, Tim and Charlene Arnold of Kalama and Ruthann and Jeff Weller of Enumclaw, Wash.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Vince was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters, Naomi, Darlene, Barbara, Elaine, and Janiece.
He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Bracken and USS Minah in the Asiatic Pacific Region. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal. Vince worked for Pacific Northwest Bell for 36 years, retiring in 1982.
Vince served many years as a member of The Kiwanis Club, as well as the Grants Pass School Board, Mission America Placement Service (MAPS), and RV Missions for Washington Pacific Church of the Nazarene (WAPAC). He was outgoing, loving, generous, and loved God, country and his fellow man.
A celebration of Vince’s life is planned for noon Saturday, Jan. 6 at Abundant Life Church of the Nazarene in Kelso with pastors Tim Westerburg and Devin Anderson officiating. Vince has been laid to rest at Longview Memorial Park. Military honors were observed.
