Angie Nelson

October 7, 1964 — August 13, 2023

Angie Nelson, 58, of Longview passed away Aug. 13, 2023, at home.

Our sweet Angie was born Oct. 7, 1964, in Beaufort, S.C., to Ed and Jane Jording. Her brother Lance came along about three and-a-half years later and they spent most of their growing up years in Clarkston, Wash.

Angie loved being in nature, playing outside, time at the beach, participating in 4-H, and arts and crafts of all kinds. Her faith was central in her early years and she was active in youth group and Young Life, on the drill team, and was a Scarleteer throughout middle and high school. In sixth grade she got her first stereo and 8-track player and would fall asleep nightly to the likes of: Elton John, the Eagles, and Fleetwood Mac.

After attending Clarkston High School, she graduated from Northwest Nazarene College and Boise State. She met Jerry her freshman year at NNC in 1984. The pair dated and eventually married on August 15th, of 1987. Just 5 days later, they moved to Longview, Washington to begin Jerry’s new position at Monticello Middle School.

Angie studied for her big certification exam and began what would be a 36-year career at Community Home Health and Hospice. Their family grew; first with Kalyn LeeAnn in 1994, and then again in 1999 with Andrea Danae.

Even as a child Angie was very organized and kept a very orderly room. She made lists of lists—even her lists had lists! This early discipline, combined with a creative heart, and a fierce passion for connecting and gathering others, allowed Angie to flourish over years of being team mom, church bulletin board creator, and party planner extraordinaire. She became famous for being a practical prankster, hosting extravagant over the top parties, and ever the designer of clever Halloween costumes. Angie was the catalyst for connecting people and the glue that held many together. Her events, formal to informal, were sure to amaze you, fill your belly, warm your heart, stretch your soul, and leave you in laughter!

Despite devastating news of breast cancer in 2011, its return in 2017, and most recently again in 2022, Angie never wavered in her steady faith and devotion to the Lord. A lifetime of faith allowed her to walk with the Lord every step to the very end.

Her gift to us all is her special recipe for great gatherings that she shared freely and frequently: Pick a theme and be sure that everything falls within said theme. Take many trips to the Dollar Store, Target, and the very famous Party City. Convince your friends to do crafting projects they have never even heard of, and bribe your husband to create a Pinterest project that you are sure will be “quick and easy”. Invite all of your friends and family, and be sure to welcome all guests with an enthusiastic greeting, preferably in some sort of costume. Be sure to match the theme of course. When all is said and done, don’t forget to take a picture to confirm that it is indeed the “crisp” party that you had intended. While Angie has thrown quite a few amazing parties, we know none of them compare to the party that ensued the day she entered heaven and we will spend the rest of our lives celebrating our beloved Angie.

A service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at the East Hill Alliance Church.
