Betty passed away peacefully at home in Longview, Washington, on October 14, 2024, leaving behind a legacy woven with caring gestures and cherished memories.
Throughout her life, Betty demonstrated an unwavering dedication to her family. As a mother, she nurtured her children, Phyllis Smith (Jim Fisher) and Russell Henderson, with an endless supply of love and support. Her role as a grandmother was equally precious to her, as she celebrated the lives of her grandsons, Jeff Smith and Garrett Henderson, her granddaughter, Terraka Mishler and granddaughter-in-law Jenny Bell, as well as her beloved great-grandchildren, Robyn Ahrens, Bailey Vawter, David Vawter, and Jack Vawter. Granny was not just a caretaker; she was a guiding light, always there for everyone, making each day brighter with her gentle spirit.
Betty's cooking was the stuff of legend, particularly her famous Sunday dinners that brought the family together around a warm table. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes smothered in gravy, and perfectly cooked green beans made her home the heart of family gatherings, where laughter and love flourished. She nurtured the good times and celebrations, ensuring that nobody ever went hungry, either in body or spirit.
Her hobbies reflected her caring nature; she delighted in tending to babies and crafting beautiful quilts that held the warmth of her affection. Betty was not only a loving caregiver but also an artist of the heart, creating treasures that would be passed down through generations.
Betty was humble and selfless, embodying a spirit that endeared her to all who knew her. She found immense joy in her church community and cherished the moments spent over lunch with good friends. Memories of her kindness and infectious laughter will forever resonate in the hearts of her loved ones, preserving her legacy as a compassionate soul who put others before herself.
