Beverly Jean Scott (Slater), 96, a lifetime resident of Kelso, WA, went home to be with the Lord on November 5, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at Longview Hospice. Beverly was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Russell Thomas Scott (2009) and her youngest child, Bruce Allen Scott (2004). She is survived by 4 children, Susan Spain (Wayne), Linda Olin (Doran), Thomas Scott (Phoebe), and Pamela Doehne (Kent), including 12 grandchildren, 23 great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Beverly, the youngest of 4 siblings, was born to her parents, Roy and Lottie Slater, on Sept 8, 1928, at their home in Pleasant Hill near Kelso. She was very proud of the fact that she was “born behind the bar” at her parent’s home and business at the Pleasant Hill Grocery and Bar, better known as The Lone Fir. Beverly attended Kelso Public Schools until she graduated in 1946. She married Russell on her 18th birthday, while he was on leave from serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Beverly spent her early married years as a homemaker and mother. She was employed by the Kelso School District as a cook and kitchen manager for several years. Beverly was an accomplished square dancer and snow mobile enthusiast during her adulthood. She and Russell were loyal Kelso football fans, and she loved hosting holidays for their extended family. Beverly was a faithful member of Immaculate Heart of Mary (St. Mary’s Church) for most of her adult life.
A funeral service will be held for Beverly at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Kelso, WA, on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Public viewing will be on Monday, November 18 from 1 PM to 5 PM at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park, 5050 Mt. Solo Rd. Longview, WA. 98632
A private interment will be at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park following the service.
