Bruce H. Young, age 74, died on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at his home in Vancouver, WA. He was born on Dec. 30, 1943 in Yakima, WA. The youngest of six children born to Fred and Elizabeth Young, Bruce grew up in Yakima and graduated from Eisenhower High School. He was soon after drafted by the Army. Shortly before deploying to Vietnam, Bruce suffered a serious knee injury during Judo practice that left him partially debilitated before he was honorably discharged.
Bruce would complete two Associate degrees before meeting and marrying his wife of 46 years, Vickie Lynn Weathers of El Paso, TX. They lived in the Seattle area for three years before moving to Yakima where Bruce's father encouraged him to take over his waterbed business. While in Yakima, Bruce and Vickie had three sons. Bruce was also ordained a Deacon in the Worldwide Church of God in 1978. He and Vickie were known for their dedicated service to the widows, and for constantly having brethren over to their home for dinner parties. Bruce spent many Sundays restocking magazine stands with Plain Truth Magazines during the early 1980s.
In the mid 80's Bruce began a career change to telephone technician work. He moved his family to Vancouver, WA, in 1986, where he and Vickie finished raising their three sons, and a fourth son that was born in 1989.
Bruce was a devoted husband and father. He loved to camp and explore, and to walk hand in hand with his beloved Vickie. He loved reading to his sons in the evenings until they were in their teenage years. He loved Friday night family dinners and Sabbath dinners with church friends. He also loved working with wood, relishing any chance to build or fix something around the house.
Bruce is survived by his wife (Vickie); his siblings Steve (Carole), Lynn Bennett (Richard), and David (Marilyn); his sons: Brian (Hilary) of Vancouver, WA; Dan (Brooke) of Kirkland, WA; Matt (Sarah) of Vancouver, WA; and Ben of Guthrie, OK; and his six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Northwood Park Funeral Home in Vancouver, WA on Monday August 13 at 11:00 a.m. All are welcome to attend.
