CAROL JEAN (ZUMSTEIN) HOGAN
June 17, 1934 ~ May 28, 2018
With her daughters by her side, Carol Jean Hogan, our beautiful and loving mother, peacefully passed from this life on May 28, 2018. She was 83 years old. Born in Longview, Washington and raised in Woodland, Carol was the fifth of seven children born to Joseph & Carrie Zumstein. She graduated from Woodland High School in 1952 and was honored to be a Planter's Day Princess her senior year.
Carol married Del Fredrickson in 1953 and they were blessed with three daughters, Sharon, Debra and Vicky. After that marriage ended, Carol married Don Hogan and acquired a bonus daughter, Judi.
Carol was a homemaker until her daughters were teenagers. She then found a career in food services with the Vancouver School District, where she would work 26 years.
After retiring, Carol and Don became snowbirds, traveling to Desert Hot Springs, California each winter. After his death, she became active in the community, cheerfully volunteering with the Salvation Army, the Clark County Jail Work Center, Sacajawea & Sara J. Anderson elementary schools, and New Heights Church.
Carol was a woman of faith, and by her example, instilled in her daughters the importance of serving and helping others. Her selfless love and sacrifice reached beyond her children and grandchildren to friends, and even strangers. She touched the lives of everyone she met with her sense of humor and infectious laugh, her grace, love, and kind heart.
Carol is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Sharon (Jeff) Crouch, Debra (David) Hull, Vicky Fredrickson and Judi (Don) Roberts; eight grandchildren, Stacey (Chauncey) Collins, Stephanie Wagner, Jared (Misty) Crouch, Jessica (Doug) Haggerty, JK Yang, Niko Yang, Rebecca Roberts and Matt (Kindra) Roberts; five great-grandchildren, Jackson Crouch, Kennedy Crouch, Alonzo Roberts, and Caroline & Damon Roberts; and two brothers, Donald Zumstein Sr. and Robert Zumstein Sr.
