Devoted and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Carole A. Chancellor passed away peacefully on October 19, 2023 at the age of 81 after a brief battle with cancer.
Carole was born on August 15, 1942 in Portland, Or. to Lester and Nina Gunderson. She was the youngest of their five children and their only daughter. Her early years were spent in Toledo, Wa. In her early teens she moved to Kelso, Wa. with her mother. While attending school in Kelso she made a lifelong friendship with Ruthann Fuqua, and met the love of her life, Wayne Chancellor. Carole graduated from Kelso High School in 1960 and was a proud, lifelong Highlander.
On July 1st, 1960, she married Wayne Chancellor. They recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
Together Carole and Wayne raised three children, Robin (Torry) Austreng, Ron (Susan James) Chancellor, and Carrie (Wayne) Yeager. Along with her children, Carole had six grandchildren, Kelly Austreng, Andy (Salina Haggard) Austreng, Josh (Madison) Sparks, Dane Austreng, Tara (Matt) Hopkins, and Cody (Leigha) Yeager, and many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Family was the most important thing in Carole's world.
Carole lived a rich life full of memories made with family and friends. Highlights were camping at Long Beach, dancing with Wayne at the Elks, traveling to rod runs with friends and family in their 1948 Chevrolet and later on in their 1948 Pontiac, and having the family together for holiday feasts. She also found joy in sewing baby clothes and blankets for loved ones and feeding her squirrels.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Dick, Don, Bud, and Bob Gunderson and her son Ron. She is survived by her husband Wayne, daughters Robin and Carrie and special friends Ruthann Fuqua, Jim and Mary Ellis, and Jim and Gail Coyne.
Carole loved her country and never missed an opportunity to thank a veteran for their service. Please remember her by thanking a veteran, wearing red, white, and blue, or supporting your local veterans association.
A heartfelt thank you to Holly Care Homes for the exceptional care that you provided. Necessity brought us together, but your love, compassion and care for mom and her loved ones made us family.
