Daniel Allen Nelson

Longview, Washington

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel Allen Nelson. Born Feb. 16th, 1946 in Longview, WA, He died peacefully on Apr. 12th, 2025 at home in Longview, WA with family at his side after a long illness from pulmonary fibrosis.

After his military service and marriage, he was employed by Reynolds Metals (Alcoa), retiring in 1998 with 30 years of service.

Survived by his wife of 58 years, Donna G. (Aldridge) Nelson, one son, Ronald A. Nelson, of Pahrump, NV & daughter in law Julie Heart Nelson, one daughter, Lisa (Nelson) Heltemes, of Castle Rock, WA & son in law Roger Heltemes. Four grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Two brothers, Jim Nelson and Lloyd (Dewey) Nelson both of Longview, WA
Three sisters, Sheryl (Nelson) Rapp of OR, Jennifer (Nelson) Grindeland of Colorado and Diane (Nelson) Smith of OR
One step sister, Linda (Heiserman) Anderson of OR

Preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd W. Nelson and Eva M. (Watson) Nelson
One older brother Larry W. Nelson and a step brother, David N. Heiserman

Graduated from Kelso H.S. in 1964, with military service in the U.S. Army from 1964 – 67 Vietnam era. With deployment to South Korea, trained as a track vehicle mechanic (tanks), reaching a rank of SP5.

As a young married couple, Dan & Donna and their children enjoyed traveling around the country in various RV’s. They also enjoyed classic cars, owning many over the years and sharing their love for classic cars with fellow enthusiasts at car shows locally and in OR, CA, & CO. They also were participating members in two local car clubs. In retirement the couple lived at their “cabin” on Lake Mayfield. Their winters were spent “snow birding” to So. California, where they made many friends. For many years Dan was known as “The Bingo Man”, as game host/caller for the RV resort where they lived.

Dan always felt blessed to live such a wonderful life in retirement saying “God is Good!” and wished the same for all his family and friends in their own retirement one day, taking advantage of all life has to offer.

“His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 25th 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation viewing on the 23rd and 24th from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park, 5050 Mt. Solo Rd., Longview, WA 98632
Military honors will be performed after the service at 12:00 p.m. in the mausoleum Bldg. C
