David Allan Gregory

Lifelong local resident David Allen Gregory, 71, was born Sept. 21, 1951, in Longview, and passed away peacefully at his Longview home Aug. 21, 2023, in his wife’s arms.

In his youth Dave played Little League catcher and basketball. After graduating from Kelso High School in 1970, he served in the Air Force from 1971 to 1976. He worked for Reynolds Metals before beginning his career with Fibre. Dave retired as an instrument technician in 2010.

He was married to Marta Ames from 1970 to 1995. They had two children together. In 2010 he married Sharon O’Neill who had a crush on Dave in the 7^th grade. They were reintroduced by her son’s fiancé in 2004 and became inseparable.

Dave enjoyed attending breakfast with the Fibre Retirees, playing poker, watching NASCAR, adventures with his family and traveling, especially to Mexico and Vegas where he played in the World Series of Poker with his brother Dick. Dave will be remembered for the dry humor that kept Sharon laughing, his intelligence, and the love he had for his family and friends. He was a wonderful father figure to three sets of children.

Dave is survived by his wife, Sharon Gregory at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Erin Gregory of Longview; a daughter, Cara Gregory of Longview; Sharon’s children, Colby Loftesness and his wife, Karyn of Vancouver, Ashley O’Neill of Battleground, Wash., and Kelsy Nobudrin of Longview; four granddaughters, Jillian, Marissa, Abby and  Hannah Gregory, all of Longview; four stepgrandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Hailey and Dylan Loftesness, all of Vancouver; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Patty Gregory, and Richard and Dena Gregory, both in Washington, and their families.

His parents, Carl and Evelyn (Wills) Gregory, preceded him in death.

A celebration of Dave’s life is planned for 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24 at the home of his son, Daniel Gregory, 159 Breezeway Drive, in Longview. A light luncheon will be served.
