Delaine Harold

January 30, 1937 — October 6, 2022

Delaine E. Harold

Delaine Esther Harold, 85, passed away on October 6, 2022, at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center in Vancouver, WA. She was born January 30, 1937, in Minot, ND, to parents Theresa Ann (Hennessy) and Lloyd Grant Hilmer Hansen. She graduated from Minot High School in 1955 and received her nursing degree from St Francis School of Nursing in 1958. She met and married her husband John W. Harold in Minot, ND, and they celebrated 55 years of marriage together.

Delaine worked as a Registered Nurse for over 30 years starting her career at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Minot, before moving to Washington where she was the Head Nurse of Labor and Delivery and helped establish the Neonatal Unit at Memorial Hospital in Yakima. She continued her career at St Joseph’s Hospital in Lewiston, ID, as Head Nurse and a flight transport nurse who accompanied high-risk newborns to critical care hospitals in Spokane, Seattle, Salt Lake City, and Portland, OR.

After she retired from nursing, she joined her husband who worked as an auditor for the Moose Association and traveled across the United States. Delaine was an active member of the Women of the Moose. She held several offices, earned her College of Regents degree, and served in a variety of roles during her 60+ years of membership. Delaine was inducted into the Washington State Northern Idaho Moose Association Hall of Fame in 2016 being recognized for her “untiring devotion and outstanding service”.

Following her husband’s retirement, Delaine enjoyed many years volunteering for Washington State Parks. She and John would spend their summers working in parks throughout the state and loved sharing their knowledge of history and nature with their grandchildren.

Delaine was a devout Christian and a member of Vancouver Heights United Methodist Church. She was always willing to serve. No role was too small or insignificant. She passed before seeing the church’s recently installed Labyrinth, for which she served as chairperson of the committee over the past several years. She was also a long-time member and chairperson of the United Methodist Women - Hannah Circle.

Delaine was reunited in heaven with her parents, husband, and three siblings. She is survived by two sisters, three children, eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A service celebrating her life will be held at noon on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Vancouver Heights United Methodist Church, 5701 MacArthur Blvd., Vancouver, WA 98661.
