Delbert William Huennekens, who was born on July 5 th , 1939 passed away peacefully in his home on
June 17 th , 2023. He was 83.
With a commanding stature of 6’ 8 ½ “ he was as kindly as he was tall, a gentle giant. At 15 years of age
he quit school to work full time in his dad’s contracting business. He never retired.
He became a Christian at nine years old, and as he grew in the Lord “reading the bible became of great
interest and seeking God a great concern”.
One of the many stories he shared was as follows:
“At nineteen years old working alone at Christmas time, unaware of a high concentration of life
threatening carbon monoxide in my dark and confining workplace-and in exhausted weakness could no
longer strive spiritually or physically, I sat down and said to myself, “ I shall not move until I feel better.”
Thus emptied, I simply prayed “God”. The Spirit of God flashed a big red neon sign before my eyes,
“Carbon Monoxide”. Barely able to get out of the building, I was exceedingly weak and laid in the snow
for a couple of hours. I was almost too weak to get in my truck, and somehow drove the twenty miles
home. It was over five years before my mind lost the floating feeling of mental inability.” Del had many
such stories of God intervening in his life.
He gave credit to the providence of God for his wonderful wife of 62 years, Pearl. He cared deeply for his
family and his friends. If he knew you, you were his friend. He was known among them to be kind,
gentle, enduring, giving, faithful and genuine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lottie and Steve Huennekens and his brother, Travis
Huennekens.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl, their five children, Marc, Margo, Bryon, Diane and Steve. Twelve
grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren, and his sister, Nyla Chance.
Del left us a rich legacy of faith, hope and love. “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you,
and you shall glorify Me.” Psalm 50:15.
A special thanks to our brother in Christ, Dave Phares, Katy Meskill, Hannah and Jared Throop, Lettie
LaFerriere.
Also, Doctor Robert Warda and staff, for years of excellent care.
