Donald R. Scotberg, 61, of Albany OR and Kalama WA, passed away on April 24, 2023.
Don graduated from Kalama High School at the top of his class. He studied accounting at Central Washington for a BA and Western Washington for an MA. After becoming a Certified Public Accountant, he worked as a CPA for Georgia Pacific for 37 years, receiving many accolades and promotions. He moved with the company from Portland OR to the corporate office in Atlanta GA in 1996. He hosted officials of the 1996 Olympic Game trials, proud cousin of one of them. He was able to participate in many festivities at these programs for his hosting efforts. When Don moved into a community, he immediately began a search for his home church. He had a deep faith, actively participating in church events, Bible classes and volunteering at local service organizations and donating to international causes. Don had a variety of interests including Nascar, coin collecting, and poker. He traveled to all 50 United States. He was a devoted son, a fun sibling, nephew, and cousin. He was someone you could rely upon for a laugh and a smile.
He is predeceased by his parents. Don is survived by his sister Kathy/Kass, brother Doug and sister-in-law Cathy, Aunt Freda, and many cousins.
We appreciate the care you have for our beloved brother. There have been so many varied offers of kindness.
Don loved his spring drive from the Albany office to the Eugene office. Along the way was a section over a mile long (I believe) of beautiful daffodils. Plant something of beauty in remembrance of him.
Don has always been a person of faith. Donate a special tithe to a project that sings to your heart in your religious community.
Don has supported community youth projects, college alma maters, community houses serving the homeless, Helping Hands organizations, food banks, Wounded Warriors and Veterans of Foreign Wars, international community services – to name a few. Donate in Don's name or think of him with Joy as you help.
Lastly practice deliberate acts of kindness, do something fun, have an adventure.
Thank you for all you have been to our brother.
Remembrance gathering will be on Saturday, October 21, 2023, 12 noon – 2 pm at Kalama Community Building, 216 Elm St., Kalama Washington. Light refreshments offered.
