Evelyn Jeanne Lejon, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024, in Longview, Washington. Born on October 27, 1942, in Newport, Oregon, Evelyn was the treasured daughter of Martin and Norma Tuttle. She was a woman who lived her life devotedly, full of kindness, laughter, and unwavering faith.
From an early age, Evelyn was known for her gentle spirit and warm smile. She often shared joyful memories, like the time she prayed for an extra treat while licking the beaters of her mother’s cake batter. In her heart, she felt that her prayer had been answered that day—a testament to her lifelong belief in the goodness of God and the miracles that surround us. When she was 15 years old, she was baptized in Jesus Name in the John Day River.
Evelyn graduated from Prairie City High School in May 1961, passionate about learning and spirituality. She graduated from Conquerors Bible College in 1964 and later in life went on to attend Lower Columbia College, earning a degree in Accounting in 1985, a proud achievement she shared with her daughter, Jeanne, who graduated high school that same year. Her professional journey included working for Busack Electric and later for Peace Health, where her dedication shone brightly until retirement.
A faithful member of the Longview United Pentecostal Church, Evelyn was actively involved in ministry and community. She had a profound love for God, which guided every aspect of her life. She taught Sunday School, led worship, organized Ladies Bible Study groups, and even helped run a fireworks booth for her church. Her passion for sharing faith extended beyond the local community; she worked with her husband, Nils, in the church in Sweden and contributed to establishing the church in Longview.
Evelyn's life was filled with many cherished memories, including her marriage to Nils Lejon on July 11, 1964. Together, they welcomed two children into the world: Jeanne and David. She took immense pride in her family. Her daughter, Jeanne Lejon; son, David Lejon; granddaughter Andee Clemetson (Austin); and her great-grandchildren, Aaron, Alister, Aiden, and Adora, brought her boundless joy. Evelyn's siblings, Dr. Ken (Susanna) Tuttle, Joan (Gary) Visser, Rev. Mike (Dianna) Tuttle, as well as her sister-in-law, Leslie Tuttle, and the extensive family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews remained close to her heart. Her family was her life’s treasure, one she cherished above all else.
Evelyn’s final moments were marked by the love and presence of her family. The day before her passing, Pastor Peterson came to pray with her, and in a beautiful display of faith, she joined her family in worship. As they sang together, even when her strength waned, she mouthed the words, showcasing her enduring spirit and commitment to her Savior. With rejoicing and thanksgiving, she prepared for her final graduation to eternity.
Evelyn Jeanne Lejon is preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Norma Tuttle; her older brother, Keith Tuttle; and her ex-husband, Nils Lejon. Her memories will be a source of comfort and strength to all who knew her.
Her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and friends. Viewing services will be held at Steele Chapel in Longview on January 6, 2025, and the Longview United Pentecostal Church on January 7, 2025, culminating in her funeral service at the Longview United Pentecostal Church that same day, followed by her burial at Longview Memorial Park.
Evelyn will remain a shining light, reminding us of the preciousness of life and the beauty of love shared amongst family and friends.
