Fred Richards

August 9, 1930 — December 31, 2022

Fred Richard sadly passed away December 31, 2022 at the age of 92 at Peace Health Medical Center. Fred was born in Tacoma Washington August 9, 1930 to Nelly and Cecil Richards.

Fred lived and worked most of his life in Longview Washington. Fred worked for Weyerhaeuser Company for 35 years, retiring in 1991. Fred married the love of his life Marie C. Gipson in 1951 in Yakima Washington. They had three daughters, Pam Plant, Debbie Spaur and Christina McGowan. Fred absolutely adored Marie and took great pleasure working together, raising their family and building their life together. Marie passed in 2017. Fred and Marie were married 66 glorious years.

Fred was hard-working kind, compassionate and had a sense of humor.

His humor would come out in his wonderful stories he told. He loved nothing more than to put in the occasional fictitious story, especially with the grandkids. They knew they had been had when dad would do his contagious laugh or mom saying, “Oh Fred!”

Fred always had a garden, loved woodworking, tinkering in his shop, traveling, camping and numerous trips with family and CB friends in his big red truck, camper attached. Fred and Marie traveled through several western states and into Canada. They, also, love cruising to Alaska.

We are so blessed to call this wonderful man Dad. He was an incredible husband and father and grandfather.

Fred was preceded in death by his dear wife Marie C Richards, one granddaughter Stephanie Spaur, two grandsons Joshua and Kyle Harrison, his parents Cecil and Nellie Richards, three sisters Polly, Barbara, Esther Russel, two brothers Jim and Frank Richards.

Fred is survived by three daughters Pam (Steve) Plant of Silver Lake, Washington, Debbie (Bob) Spaur of Longview, Washington, Christina McGowan (Doug) of Castle Rock, Washington, one sister Shirley Hall of Yakima Washington, four granddaughters Shannon Kaftanic, Tracy Plant, Brook Ferguson, Bridget Niemi, two grandsons Jeremy Spaur and Shawn Plant and numerous nieces and nephews, three great granddaughters Anna McKenzie and Natelie, seven great grandsons Caleb, Auston, Zachary, Christion, Seth, Liam, Ethan, two great grand children Israel and Baby Z.

A service will be held at Steele Chapel Longview Memorial Park February 3, 2023 at 1 PM in the chapel. Refreshments in the hospitality room after the service. Reverend Timothy F Kaftanic officiating.
