Gerald Robert Oswald, a beloved husband, brother, and uncle, passed away peacefully at home November 10,2024, at the age of 77. Born on May 17, 1947, Gerald was a lifelong resident of Longview, Washington, and he filled his life with love, laughter, and a passion for bowling that brought joy to all who knew him.
Gerald dedicated many years to his career, working at several businesses, including Columbia River, Exitor, Green Mt., and Weyerhaeuser, until his well-earned retirement in 1985. His strong work ethic and commitment to his job were just a reflection of his character—always giving his best.
An alumnus of the Washington State Deaf School, graduating in 1966, Gerald always found ways to connect. He had a heart of gold and cherished his time spent with his beloved wife, Lynda Lee "Sissie." Their bond was a beautiful testament to love, as they shared countless moments together, often revolving around his favorite pastime—bowling. Gerald loved talking about the sport and eagerly shared his enthusiasm with anyone willing to listen. One of his proudest accomplishments was bowling a near-perfect 299 game on May 7, 1999, an achievement he proudly commemorated with a special ring.
Beyond bowling, Gerald found comfort in the simplicity of life. He loved watching football, baseball, and old movies while dozing in his favorite chair, where puzzles would often find their way into his hands. These peaceful moments were punctuated by visits from family, especially when his nieces joined him for bowling games, bringing warmth and laughter that he cherished deeply.
Gerald's warmth extended beyond his immediate family. He is remembered fondly by his surviving brothers, Paul Oswald Jr. and George Oswald, along with his brother-in-law George "Corky" Beardsley, and sister-in-law Edna Mae Rivet, Tommy and Brandi Beardsley, He also leaves behind cherished memories with his 11 beloved nieces, nephews, and his 22 great-nieces and nephews, and 6 great-great nieces and nephews. all of whom he adored.
Gerald was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Vera Oswald; his brother, Kenneth Oswald; and his brother-in-law, John Beardsley. He is also predeceased by loving in-laws and extended family members, including George and Ruby Beardsley, who held a special place in his heart.
A memorial service will be held to honor Gerald's life on December 2, 2024, at Steele Chapel in Longview, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his enduring legacy of love and joy. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered, forever playing the perfect game in our hearts.
