Glenna Olson, beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and friend to many, passed away in
Kelso, Washington, on Thursday, August 15, 2024, leaving a legacy of love and unwavering
faith.
Glenna was born on July 27, 1950, in Rupert, Idaho. She was the daughter of Glen Harvey
Tolman and Lila Binns Folsom. She spent her youngest years in Rupert and Hermiston, Oregon
before her family moved to Olympia, Washington just in time for her to go to first grade at
Roosevelt Elementary School. She graduated from William Winlock Miller High School (O.H.S.)
after spending her senior year in Germany. She then attended Brigham Young University and
Central Washington University from which she graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor’s Degree in
Education with a specialty in foreign languages in elementary schools.
Thereafter she continued to call Washington home. She lived in Olympia after she and Richard
Rice married in 1971 and where their children, David, Jennifer, and Jason were born. Later, as
a single mother, she moved to Longview where she worked for the State of Washington. She
worked in many positions for the State, including as a trainer with the Employment Security
Department until she retired in 2010.
While living in Longview, Glenna met Edwin Erick Olson, Jr, and moved to Kelso after they
married in 1985. Their daughter Ericka completed Glenna’s family. She and Erick continued to
live in Kelso, even after the children were raised.
Glenna loved music. Over the years she had played the violin, viola, and piano. She also lent
her voice to several church choirs. She was a talented seamstress and skilled in needlework.
Throughout her life she was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with both friends and
family.
Glenna remained an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She
loved the Relief Society and the friends she made while serving in that organization. Glenna and
Erick provided service to many friends and neighbors, family members, and church members
whenever the opportunity arose. She and Erick enjoyed traveling, especially taking cruises with
family and friends. They also shared their passion for doTerra whenever possible.
Glenna Olson looked forward to a glorious reunion with loved ones who preceded her in death.
Some of those loved ones were her sister Kay Tolman, mother Lila Binns Willis, and father Glen
H. Tolman (Janet). She leaves behind her husband Edwin Erick Olson, Jr.; children: David Rice
(Haley) of Snohomish, WA; Jason Rice of Hillsboro, OR; Jennifer Rice (Collin) of Vancouver,
WA; and Ericka Olson (Jeff) of Kelso; sister Ann Wilde (Alan) of Phoenix, AZ and Lynn Urvina of
Ocean Shores, WA. Grandchildren included Elliot, Molly, Claira, Hayden, and Tanner.

of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 900 11th Avenue, Longview, Washington.
