Holly “Hulish” Lewis, also known as Peo Peo Mox Mox of the Yakima Tribe, passed away March 3, 2021, at home in Longview.

He was born Sept. 21, 1926, aboard a two-story boathouse on the Cowlitz River, just below the Kelso Train Depot, to Mitchell and Hattie (John) Lewis.

He graduated from Kelso High School in 1944 and attended Longview Business College. He served in the Army Air Corp and was a proud member of the Yakama Cowlitz Cascade Indian Tribe, part of the Yakama Nation.

Holly married Loretta Bear in Mt. Shasta, California, and they had three children, Jon, Kim and Robert. They later divorced. On July 19, 1983, he married Nancy Bowers in Reno.

Holly worked for Peter Kiewit & Sons as a job office manager in the 1950s, contributing to the building of Peter Crawford Bridge in Kelso, paving Hwy. 101 at Gold Beach, Oregon, and the road up to the ski resort at Mt. Shasta. Holly retired as an accountant for Wasser & Winters in Longview in 1983, after 23 years with the company.

He enjoyed playing table tennis in his early years and later became an avid golfer. He loved watching the Seattle baseball team of the Old Pacific Coast League and later the Seattle team of the American League. He was a lifetime member of the Elks, and a member of the Longview American Legion and Kelso Eagles.

Holly is survived by his wife, Nancy E. Lewis, in Longview; and three children, Jon, Robert, and Kim, in North Dakota; 14 grandchildren; and four nieces. His parents, two brothers, Ray and Stanley, and a sister, Mary Ann, preceded him in death.

Viewing will be held Friday, March 12, 10am-5pm and Monday, March 15, 10am-5pm.

He will be laid to rest at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 16 at Willamette National Cemetery. Final arrangements have been entrusted to Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park & Crematory.
