Irene “Rene” Pietz passed away Sept. 15, 2022, at Prestige Senior Living Monticello Park in Longview, Wash. She was born June 5, 1924, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Anton and Mathilda Pollet.
Rene joined the Army Air Force in 1944. While stationed in Great Falls, Mont., she met her future husband, Victor Pietz. After she and Vic completed their enlistment, they moved to Rainier, Ore., for a short time before moving to Longview. As Rene always said, they moved to the “big” city of Longview and raised their family.
Rene worked at Montgomery Ward for many years and then was hired at First Federal Savings and Loan/Columbia Bank until retiring in 1986. She was an avid Mariners fan and didn’t miss a televised game. She loved country music and never turned down a trip to the casino.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Steve and Marv; a brother, Raymond; and a sister, Marion. She is survived by a son, Bill and his wife, Mary Ellen of Longview; a daughter-in-law, Linda Pietz of Vancouver; three grandchildren, Troy (fiancée Molly) of Longview, Steve (wife, Ronnell) of Vancouver, and Chris Pietz of Vancouver; and two great-grandchildren, Austin and Autumn.
Rene requested no service. Cremation has taken place and she will be laid to rest with Victor at Longview Memorial Park, close to her boys. She requested donations be made to the Community Home Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 2067, Longview, WA 98632.
The family is grateful to the caregivers at Monticello Park who took the time to visit with Irene and check on her throughout the day. Under Hospice care, Rene was provided with awesome comfort and they helped us all through the process of saying goodbye. We are forever grateful.
