Jack Lester Kinnison, 70, of Longview passed away Oct. 24, 2023, at home, surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born Feb. 22, 1953, in Mobridge, S.D., to John and Dorothy (Wolverton) Kinnison. Jack helped care for the family’s chickens and rabbits in his youth, as well as a large garden. He graduated from Mark Morris High School in 1971 and attended college courses in Portland.
Jack spent most of his career in Portland, retiring from XPO Logistics, previously Consolidated Freightways, in 2017.
He loved spending time with his children, family and friends. He enjoyed traveling to Reno and Montana, sharing the bounty of his garden, tinkering on cars and being a tinker teacher, and smelt dipping with whomever he could drag with him. Jack was loving, kind to everyone, and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was quick to say, “I’m sorry” and quick to forgive.
Jack is survived by two children, John Kinnison and Jackie Ferguson, both of Lewistown, Mont.; three grandsons, Erin, Brandon and Terrance Ferguson, all of Lewistown; two sisters, Bonnie Darlow (Brad) of Beaverton, Ore., and Jean Hanson (Jerry) of Longview; his great-grandchildren; and generations of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Hanson.
A celebration of Jack’s life is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Steele Chapel. Chaplain Linda Beattie Inlow will officiate. A reception will follow in the chapel’s hospitality room. Jack will be laid to rest at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery in Cathlamet.
Contributions in Jack’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
