Janice Lola Craig, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, entered this world Oct. 8, 1954, to Rose and Harry Daems, in Long Beach, Calif., and departed Feb. 7, 2024, in Longview, Wash., at the age of 69 surrounded by family. Her vibrant and bubbly personality was a constant source of joy to those around her, always wearing a smile that could brighten anyone’s day.
Jan graduated from R.A. Long High School in 1973 and married her first husband, William Beltz that same year. With whom, she had three wonderful children. Jan met Ernest Craig and they spent 13 years together, marrying in 2003, but later divorcing.
Jan completed her associate’s degree in accounting from Lower Columbia College in 1994 and enjoyed a fulfilling career at NW Hardwoods until her retirement in 2020. She had a passion for dancing, earning her nickname “swivel hips” in her younger years, and found excitement in visiting casinos, especially playing slot machines. Just prior to retirement, Jan embraced a newfound love for traveling with her friends and family, including trips to the beach, Cabo, and to the East Coast to name a few.
Jan’s greatest joy came from her family and friends, particularly her grandchildren, whom she adored and supported wholeheartedly. She rarely missed a baseball game and cherished every moment spent with them. Her love extended beyond her family as she touched the lives of so many with her caring nature and infectious positivity.
Despite facing a challenging battle with cancer, Jan remained resilient and maintained her cheerful spirit until the end. She will be deeply missed by her son, Josh Beltz (Dawn); two daughters, Alicia Buckhalter (Cory), and Jamie Beltz (Garry); two brothers, Duane Daems (Linda), and Robin Daems (Coy Lynn); sisters Renita Daems (Ken), and Kim Sibley (Gary); 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and those who had the privilege of calling her friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Tracy Dames.
A celebration of Jan’s life is planned for 1:30 p.m. March 16 at Kelle Hall, 1140 11th Ave., in Longview.
The family requests you honor Jan’s memory by cherishing your loved-ones and embracing life with the same positivity and grace that she portrayed.
