Jerry John Rogers

July 27, 1938 — November 26, 2023

Longview

Lifelong local resident Jerry John Rogers, 85, of Longview was reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife Latricia when he passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family Nov. 26, 2023.

He was born July 27, 1938 in Longview to Walter and Bertha (Boyers) Rogers.

Jerry served in the Marine Corps, was a proud 32 year member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU Local 21), and a founding member of the Longshoreman’s Credit Union. He was also a Kelso Elks member and a faithful member of the Longview First Baptist Church.

Jerry was a man’s man who loved people of all stripes. His eclectic group of friends never ceased to amaze his family. He loved to hunt, fish, play golf, and care for his yard. Jerry’s ability to tell fantastic stories (often without his dentures in) is legendary to his grandchildren (and particularly his great-grandchildren).

Jerry loved being a father, grandfather, brother and friend, but most of all, he loved and adored his wife of nearly 50 years, Latricia, who preceded him in death March 19, 2022. Jerry was also predeceased by his parents, Walter and Bertha; his stepfather, Archie Lawson; and two sisters, Linda and Carolee.

Jerry is fondly remembered by three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Patricia, Scott and Lori, and Michael and Mindy. He leaves a legacy of love for his grandchildren and their spouses, Mindi and Bill, Lance, Daniel and Amanda, Kyle and Marissa, Matthew and Ginger; and his great-grandchildren, Isabella, Madalynn, Kensington, Kinley, Kyson, and Kate. Also surviving are two sisters, JoAnne and Carolyn; Latricia’s sister, Janis; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members.

He will be immensely missed, but we rejoice that he is reunited with his love and dancing partner “Fancy” in Heaven.

A celebration of Jerry’s life is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Longview First Baptist Church. A light luncheon will follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Longview First Baptist Church, 747 Wheeler St, Longview, WA 98632 or your local hospice.
