Lifelong local resident JoAnn Maxine Ostreim, 77, of Longview passed away May 19, 2024, at St. John Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 25, 1946, in Longview, to Marvel and Helen (David) Austreng, and graduated from R.A. Long High School where she was a member of the school choir. She fell in love with the boy next door, John Ostreim. They were married April 23, 1973, in Reno.
JoAnn retired as a grocery clerk in 2005, and was a member of the First Baptist Church for more than 60 years, where she played the piano in years past. She enjoyed garage sales, antiques, and loved flowers. She also loved her Bichon companion Lucie, treating her like a child. She loved surprises, and to give surprises.
JoAnn is survived by her husband of 51 years, John Ostreim at home; three children, James Ostreim and Janet Osteim, both of Kelso and Jeff Ostreim of Arlington, Wash.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her nieces, nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Robert Austreng and Carol King.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday, May 24 at the First Baptist Church in Longview with Pastor Aaronn Nelson officiating. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in JoAnn’s name may be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 747 Wheeler St, Longview, WA 98632.
