Longview business owner John “Jack” Marsden, 65, passed away July 24, 2021, at the Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland.
He was born June 20, 1956, in Little Hulton, Worsley, Manchester, England, to Herbert William and Ethelburga “Terry” (Storey) Marsden. He attended Bury Technical College, earning a four-year degree in carpentry and joinery. He emigrated to the U.S. from Manchester in 1984.
Jack owned and operated Marsden Construction and Mar-Con Products in Longview since 1986. Jack loved his work. He took pride in finding good bargains on building supplies and passing the savings on to his customers. He was a smart businessman and a great provider for his family.
He married Brenda M. Davis in Longview Sept. 7, 1991, and they had two children, Austin and Blair, who were his pride and joy. Jack loved his family and enjoyed attending his children’s sporting events in their youth. He was always encouraging.
Jack had a big personality. He was happy, full of life, and went out of his way to help others. He was a man of strong faith, and attended Calvary Community Church for 30 years. He loved coffee and frequented many local coffee shops. Above all, he loved to joke, tell stories, and just talk to people - anyone who would listen.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda Marsden at home; his children, Austin Marsden and Blair Marsden, both of Longview; his mother, Ethel “Terry” Taylor of Longview; a brother, Bill Taylor of Florence, Ariz.; four sisters, Collette Taylor, Michelle England (Ray), Gloria Bates (John) and Monique Miller (Tony), all of Longview; Brenda’s parents, Stan and Carol Davis of Longview; two sisters-in-law, Janet Marsden of Longview, and Becky (Davis) Baumgardner of Kelso; a brother-in-law, Mark Davis of Auburn, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was greeted on the other side by his father, Herbert Marsden Sr.; his stepfather, Eric Taylor; and his big brother, Bert Marsden, who passed away just one year ago.
A celebration of Jack’s life is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28th at Calvary Community Church, 2655 38th Ave., in Longview.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice, because Jack loved to help everyone. Please also consider buying someone you love a coffee in Jack’s memory.
