Judy Marilyn Kennedy

Judy M. (Baker) Kennedy died of brain cancer Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at the age of 78 at Discovery Nursing & Rehab of Vancouver, Washington. She was born August 7, 1942 in Longview, Washington to Joseph (Don) and Dorothy V. Baker.
She married Donald R. Kennedy on June 11, 1960 and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary together this past June.
Judy graduated Valedictorian from Castle Rock High School in Castle Rock, Washington on June 4, 1960. Judy and Don served as Missionaries in a Maori village in New Zealand and in Cordes Lakes, Arizona. Judy played the organ, piano and accordion for many different churches and Christian meetings where Don was ministering. She was a stay-at-home wife and mother for many years. She opened her own beauty shop, Judy’s Hair Styling. She was a Girl Scout Brownies leader. She was a Missionettes leader, led a seniors group called BYKOTA’s and a choir member at Columbia Heights Assembly of God. She led The Golden Belles, a group of Christian widows, organized by her mother. Judy and her two brothers, Don and Jerry Baker formed a gospel group, The Singing Bakers which recorded an LP and travelled extensively in the Pacific Northwest. Judy and her husband, Don opened and ran the Castle Rock Youth Center in Castle Rock, WA for 7 years. They were chaplains for Thousand Trails in Seaside for 16 years. She was active in RSVP volunteering over 10,000 hrs. She received the Order of the Towel (lifetime servanthood award) from Columbia Heights Assembly of God. She became a Deaconess in the Apostolic Catholic Church of the East, retiring as an Arch Deaconess 2 weeks before her 70th birthday.
She is survived by daughters Connie Lafady of Longview and Brenda Nestor of Vancouver, 2 grandchildren Michael Kennedy of Bandera, TX and Christina Lafady of Vancouver, 2 great-grandchildren Maddox Kennedy of Lakeland, Florida and Freya Kennedy of Kelso, and a brother, Jerry Baker of Battleground, WA.
She was predeceased by her husband Don Kennedy of Longview, parents (Joseph) Don and Dorothy Baker of Kelso, brother, (Ralph) Don Baker of Kelso and great-grandchild Karver Williams of Vancouver, WA.
Due to state guidelines, a public service has not yet been scheduled.
