Kevin Joseph Shannon, 66, of Longview passed away unexpectedly May 25, 2022, of a heart attack at his home.
He was born Jan. 14, 1956, in Deer Park, N.Y., to Robert Francis and Jeanne Therese (Blais) Shannon. He graduated from Deer Park High School in 1974. Kevin had many professions over the years, but spent most of his working career as a driver in various capacities. He moved to Washington from Colorado in 2015.
Kevin’s love of fishing was only surpassed by the love he had for his daughter. He was also an avid outdoorsman who loved his country, nature, gardening, animals, music, movies, Survivor and Nature shows, as well as slapstick comedy, especially the Three Stooges, Laurel and Hardy, and Abbott and Costello. He was a huge sports fan, loyal to all his New York teams, but especially the Mets and the Yankees.
He was raised Roman Catholic, and always maintained a close relationship with God. He instilled this faith in his daughter. Kevin was known for his ornery, yet funny, personality. He was a bachelor, but went out of his way to make himself large home-cooked meals every evening. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all those who saw past his tough guy exterior.
Kevin is survived by an aunt, Pauline Arrindell in New York, three sisters, Jeanne Westerlund, Debra Munday (Richard), and Gail Vaughn (Kenneth), all in New York; a daughter, Shannon Bernadette Shannon (Charles Jennings) of Skamokawa, Wash.; his adopted son, Jason Lee Stock of Hillsboro, Ore.; two step-grandchildren, Carter and Cody Jennings, both in Oregon; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and fishing buddies.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his older brother, Timothy; and several other loved-ones.
A service is planned for 1 p.m. June 9 at Steele Chapel, followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. at Longview Memorial Park. Family and friends may pay their respects during a viewing from 10 a.m. to service time at Steele Chapel.
Cards, flowers and donations to assist the family with Kevin’s final expenses may be sent to Steele Chapel, P.O. Box 217, 5050 Mt. Solo Road, Longview, WA 98632.
