Lisa Schrock

d. June 13, 2020

Lisa Clair (Woods) Schrock, of Ridgefield Washington passed away
quietly on June 13th 2020, with her husband John at her side. She
suffered from Lupus for many years and most recently was diagnosed
with Myelodysplastic Syndrome. A case of severe sepsis took her in the
end. She was 55.

Lisa was born in Boise Idaho and her family moved to California when
she was very young. She attended High School at Foothill High in
Pleasanton, California and was a proud member of the Foothill High
Marching Band. After High School she went to Fresno State University
to chase her dream of becoming a Veterinarian. Unfortunately, she
could not continue with college after being severely injured in a car
accident. She started working as a veterinary technician in Pleasanton
and continued in that occupation for three years. Lisa became
interested in aviation and began taking flying lessons and made her
first solo flight in an Aeronca Champ. She made many friends at the
Livermore airport; among them were Air Traffic Controllers who urged
her to take the initial test to become a controller. She passed the
test and was hired soon thereafter. After graduation from the FAA
Academy she was assigned to Livermore Control Tower where she quickly
achieved full certification. After a few years at Livermore she was
offered a promotion to Oakland Towers in Oakland California. There
she served as an air traffic controller, quality assurance specialist,
training specialist, and for a short time was assigned to Livermore
Tower as the air traffic manager. Lisa also met her husband John at
Oakland, and they were married in Yosemite National Park in 1997. They
transferred to the Portland, Oregon, Control Tower where Lisa worked
as the FAA air traffic quality assurance specialist covering the state
of Oregon. Lisa's declining health forced her to leave the FAA in
2001.

Lisa was a deeply optimistic woman, a pillar of strength and courage.
She had a ready laugh and never complained, even when the burden was
heavy. Her bright smile and warm heart brought joy to all around her.
Lisa enjoyed camping in their Airstream trailer (with full hookups),
caring for her pets, cooking, and staying in touch with friends and
family, who will miss her profoundly.

Her stepfather Roy Nelson preceded her in death. She is survived by
her mother Carlene Nelson, husband John, sisters Gayle (Bruce)
Freeman, Leeanne (Joseph) Coquia, stepbrother Arjay (Renee) Nelson,
and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service is planned and will
happen at a later date.

In lieu of flowers it is asked that a contribution be made to the ASPCA.
