Luis (Lu) Bragg Alcid, age 90, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, leaving behind his loving wife of 42 years- Gaynor Alcid. A devoted husband, grandfather, and friend, Lu was kind, loving, and generous. He and Gaynor enjoyed taking their grandchildren on trips and providing guidance to the older grandchildren.
Lu graduated with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Washington. He retired from Reynolds as a supervisor of the Carbon Plant. He also dedicated his efforts to serve the people of Longview. He was a member of the Longview City Council and the Planning Commission for many years. He was proud to have worked on the improvements at John Null Park and the public library.
As a devout Catholic, Lu was an active member of St. Rose Catholic Church. He was a member of the Legion of Mary, Knights of Columbus, and a founding member & initiator of St Rose Church’s Detention Ministry. He was also a member of a group who served one meal once a month at the Community House for 20 years.
Lu will be missed by his children, Michael Alcid, Steve Alcid, Brian Alcid and stepchildren, David Booth, Sherry Harding, Janis Frasier, Richard Booth, Pamala Gaddis, Becky Frazier, and spouses, numerous grandchildren, great -grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday for all to attend., January 31, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in Longview WA. Rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. before the mass.
A graveside Interment for friends and family will be held on Saturday, February 1st at 12 p.m. at Steele Chapel Longview Memorial Park -5050 Mt Solo Rd.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to St. Rose Catholic Church 701 26th Longview WA 98632.
