Lyle Ray Fix, born in Velva, N.D., Nov. 15, 1933, passed away peacefully Nov. 30, 2023.
Lyle moved to Washington with his family in October of 1937. After graduating from R.A. Long High School in 1952, Lyle enlisted in the Navy. He served his country for three years active duty and three years in the Naval reserve. When he returned home to Longview, he married his sweetheart, Joyce Claypool, in March of 1955. They were married for 50 years. They adopted two children, Julie Alaine Fix and Jeffrey Lyle Fix.
Lyle first started serving his community as a Longview firefighter in 1958. He was also a reserve police officer for the City of Longview that same year. He was forced to leave the job he loved however, when he was injured while on duty as a fire fighter. He did not let this hold him back as he continued to serve his community in other ways. He volunteered as president of the Kelso Youth Football League and upheld a membership with the Longview- Kelso Elks. He quickly earned a reputation as “the most honest car salesman that you would ever meet.” He was well-known for his honesty and integrity.
Lyle loved to dance and spend time with his family and friends. He was a wonderful husband, amazing father, loving grandfather, and honored friend. Lyle will be greatly missed, but we celebrate his reunion with his one true love and dancing partner, Joyce.
Lyle was preceded in death by his father, Jack Fix; his mother, Beatrice Fix; two brothers, Jack Fix and Bill Fix; three sisters, Maxine Goodwin, Patricia Cuda, and Lyla Fix; his wife, Joyce A. Fix; and a daughter, Julie A. Fix.
Survivors include a sister, Marie L. Appel; a brother, Curtis W. Fix, son Jeffrey L. Fix (Karen L. Gaebel); a grandson, Garrett L. Fix (Sarah D. Fix); four granddaughters, Josie A. Fix, Larissa L. Gaebel, Rachel A. Gaebel, and Hannah M. Gaebel, and five great-grandchildren, Weston L. Fix, Norah D. Fix, Theodore J. Fix, Savannah L.N. Gaebel and Kohen A. Gaebel.
A service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29 at Steele Chapel. A reception will follow in the chapel’s hospitality room. Private interment will take place at Longview Memorial Park.
