Lynne Sathe (“Lynne with an E”), 96, long time local resident, died Sunday, January 8, 2023, at the Hospice Care Center in Longview.
Lynne was born February 9, 1926, in Eugene, Oregon to F. Clark and Nina Lewis. The family moved to Longview in 1934. She graduated from R.A. Long High School in 1943, Lower Columbia Junior College in 1945 and attended the University of Oregon. She married John (Jack) Sathe on December 6, 1946. They were happily married for 67 years.
Lynne worked as a secretary in different offices including Weyerhauser and the law offices of Walstead Mertsching. She was an active member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and was the first female lay reader in the church. She was a member of PEO, holding many offices in her chapter. Lynne enjoyed golfing and was a member of The Longview Country Club. She enjoyed doing many different crafts and was seldom without a project, either making cross stitch samplers for every new baby in the family, knitting the family Christmas socks, building and decorating model doll houses or making stained glass pieces.
Lynne is survived by her loving sister Shirley Gordon, in Fairbanks, Alaska, her cousin and favorite co-conspirator, Sharon Mertsching (Chuck) of Longview Wa, her daughter Karen Powell (Dave) of Othello, Wa, her son David Sathe of Longview Wa; three grandchildren, Tanya Damon (Chuck)of Winlock Wa, Kristin Clerget (Jason) of Mica Wa,and Jeff Powell (Jill) of Othello Wa; 9 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and many treasured nieces and nephews. Lynne truly loved everyone and was loved by all who knew her.
A service will be held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Longview on January 21 at 1:00 PM. There will be a reception in Lynne’s honor at 2:00 PM at Canterbury Park, 1335 3rd Ave in Longview.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Community Home Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 2067, Longview, WA 98632.
