Mark Adam Laufer

September 3, 1964 — January 7, 2024

Mark Adam Laufer was born on September 3, 1964 to Sandra (Cooper) and Raymond Laufer in Longview, Washington.  He passed away on January 7, 2024.

Growing up, Mark played the alto saxophone, ran cross country, swam on the high school swim team, and worked diligently to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.

After graduating from Mark Morris High School in 1982, Mark completed courses at Lower Columbia College while performing in its Jazz Band.  He then began learning the sheet metal trade and worked as shop foreman while his father ran S&R Sheet Metal, Inc. in Kelso.  Mark took over the business when his father passed away in 1993 and continued to run the company until his retirement in 2014.

Mark’s inquisitiveness and intellect made him a natural handyman.  He was incredibly talented in many areas and was always happy to share his skills to help family, friends, and the community.  If something needed to be done, Mark took care of it.  He humbly and discreetly helped others. Often the only way his family discovered his good deeds was when someone would come up to tell them. He volunteered countless hours at St. Rose Catholic Church and served on its maintenance committee.  Mark also volunteered with the Washington State School for the Blind by taking children snowmobiling.

Mark enjoyed many outdoor activities, including snowmobiling, downhill and water skiing, jet skiing, hiking, and boating.  His love for the outdoors took him around the world. He enjoyed vacationing with family to Hawaii, Mexico, Europe, National Parks, and taking many RV trips around the country.  He loved spending time at his family cabin on Lake Merwin.

Mark was predeceased by his father, Raymond Laufer and brother-in-law, Don Coddington.  Mark is survived by his mother Sandra; his wife Beth (Brown) Laufer; his daughters Claire (Trevor) Wolff and Emma (Joe) Christopherson; granddaughter Mara Wolff; his sisters: Cheryl Coddington, Suzy (Steve) Reddington, and Karin Johnson; Beth’s parents Barry and Diane Brown; Beth’s sister Katie (Jerry) Ritsema; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at St. Rose Catholic Church in Longview, WA at 10 a.m. on January 20th, 2024.  A reception with light refreshments will follow in the parish center.  All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Rose School, Longview, WA or the Washington State School of the Blind, Vancouver, WA, in his name.
