Mary Louise Chase, 92, died Jan.16, 2024, at the Rose Hill Adult Family Home in Longview.
She was born March 20, 1931, in Toppinish, Wash., to John N. and Ella May (Pease) Clees. She attended a number of schools while living with her grandmother, aunts and uncles. She graduated from R.A. Long High School, Lower Columbia College with a degree in nursing in 1971, and a bachelor of arts from City College in Seattle in 1981.
Mary and Harold E. Chase were married Sept. 26, 1948, in La Center, Wash. He preceded her in death.
Mary worked in the nursing field from 1957 to 1996, but continued to help with the Parish Nurse program at her church.
She enjoyed her home and yard, sewing, gardening, sharing her flowers, entertaining in her home, and visiting with family and friends. She was a member and life deacon of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and a former member of Cowlitz Caravan Good Sam Club.
In addition to Harold, Mary was preceded in death by three brothers, Jasper Clees, Alva B. Clees and John Clees; and two sisters, Ella May Glad and Margaret Schultz.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Harold E. Jr. and Rhonda Chase of Otis Orchards, Wash.; three daughters, Sharleen Smith of Vancouver, and Charlotte Peterson and Jean Chase, both of Longview; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A cryptside service is planned for 1 p.m. Jan. 26 at Longview Memorial Park. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at Steele Chapel.
