Mary Helen Miller, 76, of Longview passed away Oct. 28, 2022, at home.
She was born Dec. 8, 1945, in Alexandria, La., to Donald and Vivian Hammer. The family moved to Pasco, Wash., where they owned a gas station. Mary attended Pasco schools where she was a cheerleader, played on the baseball team, and traveled with a singing group.
She met James Miller as a child. Their friendship blossomed into love and they were married in Spokane in 1969. They made Longview their home.
Mary attended Eastern Washington University and was a geology and history instructor at Lower Columbia College. She also owned a children’s clothing store. She’d been retired for the past 15 years. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and attending her grandchildren’s events. Mary was quick-witted and honest. She was also kind, patient, understanding and generous.
Survivors include her husband James at home; a daughter, Darci Suttle of Olympia; a son, James Miller II of Longview; two granddaughters, Morgan Suttle of Olympia and Piper Miller of Portland; three sisters, Lucy Love and Pam Edwards, both of Richland, Wash., and Valoria Loveland of Pasco, Wash.; two brothers, Mike Hammer of Pasco and George Hammer of Mandan, N.D.; and seven nephews and nieces.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Steele Chapel. The family will gather to celebrate her life next spring.
