Mary Jo Atkinson

Longtime local resident Mary Jo Atkinson, 67, of Longview passed away Nov. 23, 2021, at St. John Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 8, 1954, in Watford City, N.D., to Edward Lester and Irene (Peshack) Mattison. The family moved to the local area in the early 1960s and Mary Jo graduated from Mark Morris High School.

Mary Jo enjoyed being a member of TOPS, knitting, visiting with friends and family, reading, and writing short stories. She was outgoing, funny, caring, loving and friendly.

She is survived by a sister, Elaine Loerch of Longview; two brothers, Jerome and Gary Mattison, both of Longview; eight nieces and nephews, Barbra Kiesling of Arlington Wash., Kerry Mattison of Monroe, Wash.; Curtis Mattison of Kelso, Erick and Tom Mattison , both of Longview, Vicki Miller of Arengard, N.D., Debbie Seaman of Sheldon, Iowa, and Ed Stashuk of Williston, N.D.; and their families.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Diana Stashuk; a brother, Ronald Mattison; and a sister-in-law, Judy Mattison.

Final arrangements were entrusted to Steele Chapel and Mary Jo will be laid to rest at Longview Memorial Park.
