Norma Jean McQueen, a beloved figure, passed away peacefully at home in Longview Washington, on November 14, 2024, surrounded by her family, including her cat, Casper, and dog, Charlie. Born on October 11, 1937, in Longview, Norma was a true daughter of the community where she spent her entire life.
Norma was not just a homemaker; she was a master gardener, each spring transforming her yard into a vibrant oasis of color with every flower imaginable. Her flower garden became a gathering place for family and friends, where precious memories were made while tending to the blooms. Much like her flowers, her passion extended into the realm of games; she was unmatched in her prowess at crossword puzzles and Scrabble, sparking joy and friendly competition amongst those who played with her.
Norma's indomitable spirit and dedication to service were well known. She was a pillar of the community, generously volunteering her time to transport patients and clients across the Pacific Northwest for two decades. Her commitment to these causes earned her numerous awards and accolades, but she never sought recognition for herself, instead believing deeply in the importance of helping others.
An extraordinary craftsman, Norma took great pride in her ability to fix and repair things around her home. Her resourcefulness and ingenuity were legendary; there was almost nothing she couldn’t manage to mend or improve, a talent she cherished dearly. Her love for home projects was only overshadowed by her other profound dedication—her advocacy for missing children, a cause that further highlighted her compassionate nature.
Norma is survived by her daughter Rhona Elliott, her son Jim Dixon Jr., and daughter Julie Ann Trotter. She was also a proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren and a great-grandmother to eighteen great-grandchildren, all of whom filled her life with joy and laughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Flora Gannels, her brother Ronald Gannels, her daughter Tamara Leandra Chambers, and her granddaughter Dana Alicia Dixon. Though they are no longer with her, Norma's legacy of love, kindness, and service will continue to thrive through her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 3, 2024, at Steele Chapel in Longview, WA, beginning at 1:00 PM, followed by a Graveside Service at Longview Memorial Park at 2:00 PM. As her family gathers to honor her memory, they will undoubtedly share the countless stories and heartfelt memories of a woman whose life touched so many.
Norma Jean McQueen will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever bloom in the hearts of those who cherished her.
