Patricia Arlene Hendrickson

June 2, 1932 — December 19, 2022

Pat Winchell was born on June 2, 1932 to Ernie and Dot Winchell in Hubbard, Oregon.

She and her brother, Walter, grew up in Rainier, Oregon and spent many weekends

with their cousins in Salem. Pat met Arnold Hendrickson when she was spending time

with a girlfriend in Longview who lived near the fuel station where Arnold worked. She

began making more frequent trips to visit her girlfriend and Arnold managed to make

himself available to trade tasks with whomever was assisting Pat. They married on

August 22,1953.

Pat and Arnold had three children and she was always the most lively, fun and involved

mom of all. She dedicated her life to making her kids’ lives better by taxiing, cooking,

entertaining sleepovers and being a fun loving parent. Pat didn’t know how to swim so

she made sure all three kids learned how to swim at an early age so she could be

rescued if she fell into Arnold’s backyard swimming pool. She loved to shop and spend

time in the sun and tend her flowers in the summer months. Known as “Mother Hen” to

all her kids’ friends, she allowed fire drills around her car at stop lights (covered her

eyes and said she wouldn’t acknowledge she knew us if stopped by an officer), toilet

papering the neighbors at night, and screening phone calls for breakups that her teens

wanted to avoid.

Pat was the dream grandma. She reared all of the grandkids (even and especially when

they were sick) while parents were working, ferried them to sporting events, and

videotaped their accomplishments. She was the pit stop home for any family member

with a few extra moments in town or needing to take a nap or shower. There was

always spam and pasta topped with ketchup and cheese awaiting the grandkids.

She cherished time with her girlfriends and their weekly lunches, which sometimes

teetered on the brink of the pre-dinner hour. Pat had a wicked and warped sense of

humor… always quick with a sarcastic or sassy comeback even until the day before she

passed. She received several years of watchful attention by her grandson, Daniel,

which allowed her to remain in her home longer than expected. Pat loved her animal

pals up until the very end as she enjoyed the company of Addison’s dog, Bentley, at

Ullmann Family Home where she received excellent care.

She is survived by her brother, Walter, and her children, Dave (Teri) Lori (George) and

Linda (Ron). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kevin (Ashley), Dave (Kendra),

Daniel, Peter (Lauren), Phil (Shannon), Halle, and Drake and great grandchildren, Mark,

Benton, and Jackson. Not to be forgotten, Pat was preceded in death by her husband,

Arnold, and great grandchild, precious Cooper. Because of Pat’s spirit of philanthropy,

please feel free to donate to the Humane Society or whatever brings your heart joy!
