Lifelong local resident Paul Douglas Mullenix, 66, of Longview passed away Jan. 12, 2023, at home.
He was born July 19, 1956, in Longview, to Wally and Jo (Tennant) Mullenix. Paul graduated from R.A. Long High School in 1974, where he was a member of the wrestling and football teams.
He married LaRita March 19, 1976, in Longview, while serving in the Army from 1975 to 1978. He was stationed in South Korea for a year. Upon his return Paul worked for the Cowlitz County Road Department, and Reynolds Metals for 20 years, serving as plant safety manager when they closed. He retired in 2015, after driving for multiple local trucking companies.
Paul was the best dad, papa and husband. He supported his grandchildren’s sporting events, including equestrian functions and baseball games, as well as their educational and career choices. He was outgoing, confident, encouraging, loving and helpful.
Paul could be a prankster and a playful joker. He loved a good laugh. He cherished time with family and friends, and was a gifted storyteller. He also loved a good debate. He was creative and thought outside the box. He enjoyed playing guitar, fishing, camping, barbeques and discussing the glories of God. He took care of the birds and deer on his property. He was particularly fond of the hummingbirds.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, LaRita Mullenix at home; his mother, Jo Mullenix of Castle Rock; four siblings, Jan (Mark) Damschen of Castle Rock, Ray Mullenix and Denise (Chris) Kivela, both of Longview, and Daryl (Donna) McCallum of Elma, Wash.; a daughter and son-in-law, Bethany and Mike Larsen of Longview; and three grandchildren, Madison Moody, Hannah Larsen and Noah Larsen, all of Longview.
His father, Wally Mullenix, and his grandparents, aunts and uncles preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
