Prestyn Scott Sturm, a free spirit with a heart full of generosity, was born on December 29, 1999, in Longview, Washington. Throughout his life, he endeared himself to many with his unwavering kindness and infectious enthusiasm for sharing. Tragically, Prestyn passed away on September 26, 2024 in the same town that witnessed the blossoming of his spirit.
He was a proud student of R.A. Long High School, where his love for connection shone brightly. Prestyn had a unique way of making every gathering special; one of the fondest memories people will carry is his delightful habit of raiding the fridge upon entering his aunt's or grandmother's homes, a charming quirk that truly encapsulated his vivacious personality. It was always endearing to see him with something he was trying to sell, showcasing his whimsical nature and his entrepreneurial spirit, even at a young age.
Prestyn was a beloved son to Michael and Teresa Sturm, and he treasured his close relationships with his family. He is survived by his two sisters including Brook, his children, Gretchen and Oscar, and a host of grandparents—Kalie and David Zumwalt, Chris and Gene Sturm—as well as his step-dad Ray Rutherford. His extended family included cherished cousins Eli and Jarod, a supportive aunt Kaylean Burtch, uncle Clayton Burtch, and uncle Terry Sturm. Each of these loved ones held a special place in his heart, and their moments spent together will always be remembered with affection.
An avid collector, Prestyn found joy in gathering cans and any oddball treasures, a reflection of his unique take on life. He had an eye for clothes, often seeking out garments he himself could not wear, simply for the thrill of discovery. His zest for life extended to the people around him; he loved being in their company, always willing to share whatever he had, even if it meant giving away his last five dollars or the clothes off his back.
Prestyn's pride and joy encompassed the births of his two children, Gretchen and Oscar. These moments forever marked his journey with a profound sense of accomplishment and love. His legacy will carry on through them, a testament to his warmth and nurturing spirit.
While his life was brief, the impact he made on those who knew him is immeasurable. Prestyn leaves behind not only his family but also indelible memories filled with laughter, kindness, and an unwavering spirit. He is now reunited with his great-grandparents, Ruth and Emmette Zumwalt, and Robert and Betty McMasterd, who welcomed him with open arms.
As we remember Prestyn, let us celebrate the joy he brought into our lives. May his memory serve as a reminder to share, to love, and to cherish the moments with those we hold dear. There is a Celebration of Life service at Lake Sacajawea across from St. John's Hospital on October 30, 2024.
