Ricky Howard Parcel was born to Ernest and Dorothy (Dottie) Parcel on August 13, 1955 in Kelso, Washington. He comes from a long legacy of Military service. His paternal grandfather, WWI, father, WWII and brother, Vietnam all served in the United States Army. Right after graduating from Kelso Senior High in 1973. Ricky joined the ranks in the United State Air Force. From 1973-1977. Where he was an aircraft mechanic stationed in McClelland Air Force Base and Okinawa, Japan working on the Sikorsky Helicopter, famously dubbed the Jolly Green Giant.
After his service he returned home and stayed with his parents for a short while helping them out. He then joined Fibre Federal, bought a home and moved to Cathlamet. He continued on at Fibre and worked his way up for next 23 1/2 years. Retiring on December 31, 2010.
While attending a coin show he met long time pal Don Von Tungeln. The two shared many adventures over the years, traveling throughout Washington and Oregon going to all the different coin shows. Which he was a member of the Cowlitz Coin Club. Ricky loved to hunt, fish and clam dig. He was also an avid Antique collector, one of the many passions he shared with both his parents. Always on the lookout for the next great find. In the last few years he enjoyed going to the Casinos. Collecting all the free incentive gifts and then giving them all away to the less fortunate. For that very same thoughtfulness, he was featured on
KATU 2 News on August 10, 2013, Everyday Heroes for his kindness and generosity to our local community. Paying it forward to anyone who just needed a little extra help.
He looked forward to his weekly calls with his niece, Nina. Catching up on daily events and what was going on in the news. A proud American and a strong Trump supporter. He felt pride in sharing stories of their family history and his life growing up in South Kelso. Always finishing each story with a laugh and then saying, “Its not my fault.” Which would make him laugh again. Ending every call with, I love you.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Dorothy Parcel and his older brother, David Parcel. He is survived by his nieces, Nina Stajcar (Blaze) Alice Kaufman and nephew David Ferguson (Jacqueline).
Thank you for joining us to honor his life and memory.
