Robert Arthur Morehouse

Robert “Bob” Arthur Morehouse passed away December 18, 2021 at home.

Bob was born on April 18, 1957, at Alameda, California. He was the second child of Harvey Eugene Morehouse and Betty Edith (Butler).

Bob attended elementary school in Oakland, California, before the family moved to Kelso, Washington, in 1969. He attended Coweeman Junior High School and Kelso High School. Bob was an announcer for Kelso High School football games and participated in drama, musicals, choir, and tennis. Bob graduated from Kelso High School in 1975.

Bob served four years in the US Air Force as a Medical Services Specialist. He received the AF Longevity Award/Ribbon, the AF Training ribbon, and the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship ribbon.

Shortly after his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Bob suffered an accident which damaged his spinal cord and resulted in partial paralysis. Although surgery and braces enabled him to walk, his life thereafter was marked by pain and medical issues, but he never complained.

Bob graduated in 1992 from Lower Columbia College cum laude with an Associates Degree in Office Administration. Bob had various jobs throughout the years, working as an EMT, an office worker at the Trojan Nuclear Power plant, an investigator with the Cowlitz County Prosecuting Attorney Division of Child Support, and other local jobs. For 18 years he drove to Olympia daily to work for the State of Washington Licensing Division on their Vehicle Title Fraud team.

Bob was an avid photographer of scenery and loved to travel; he had driven and taken photos in ten different countries plus Hawaii. He served on the KHS reunion committee. He was an amateur (ham) radio enthusiast for more than 34 years, participating in the local chapter of the Lower Columbia amateur radio club, including search and rescue, disaster drills, interactions with the International Space Station, etc; he had radio contacts in over 100 countries, and was named 1992 Amateur Radio Operator of the Year. In the past, he played guitar and sung in several area churches, as well as in Spokane during his time in the Air Force. Bob had a sense of humor which was enjoyed by all who knew him.

Bob was predeceased by his parents and by his brother-in-law Daniel Lovelace. He is survived by his sister & brother-in-law Ruth & Mike Gill of Rupert, Idaho; his aunts, Arlene Birdsall of Lake Stevens, WA, and Sue Butler of Port Orchard, WA; his nephews Philip (Melanie) Lovelace of Pocatello, Idaho; Andrew (Trixie) Lovelace of American Falls, ID; John (Rachel) Lovelace of West Point, UT; numerous cousins and 9 great-nieces and great-nephews.

A celebration of Robert's life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Steele Chapel. Interment will be at Longview Memorial Park. The family suggests donations to the community work of the Lower Columbia Amateur Radio Association at PO Box 906, Longview, WA 98632.
