Steven Micheal Merritt passed away on September 29, 2021 in his home in Longview Washington at the age of 65.
He was born on August 24, 1956 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth Minnesota to Janet Tjaden and Joesph Merritt. After high school graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy in 1975, where he spent 20 years of his life traveling the world. He was stationed in Guam, Italy, Japan, Greece, Philippines as well as many other places. He married Roberta Marsh on October 16, 1981. After retiring, he settled in Longview, Washington with his family. In his early years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his father in law (Fred) and brother in laws (Jerry and Steve).
He is survived by his 4 daughters: Krystie (Ray) Hamm, Ann (Benjamin) Buker, Elizabeth (Jason) Barnett, and Heidi Merritt; his grandchildren: Bailey, Sebastian, Darion, Skyler, Isabelle, Michael, Jayden, Scott, Kayleigh, Gabriel, and Alexander; his siblings: Janine Thibodeau, Lisa (Chuck) Olsen, Stephanie (Karl) Andraschko, Dan (Lindsay) Merritt, and his step-mother: Cherie Merritt, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Steve is preceded in death by both his grandparents, John & Christine Gormley, Frank Merritt and Peggy Shearer, both his parents and a nephew, Ford.
A Military service will be held on October 22, 2021 at 1 PM sharp at Vancouver Barracks National Cemetery 1455 E 4th Plain Blvd, Vancouver, Wa 98661 with a full Honors Salute. A celebration of life to follow at Regent Restaurant & Lounge 3353 Washington Way, Longview Washington from 2:30 - 6 PM.
