Steven James Pierce, beloved son and brother, was born on August 6, 1964, in Longview, Washington, and passed away on July 5, 2024, succumbing to complications of pneumonia. He is survived by his mother, June Myer Pierce, sister Sabrina Meyers, brother-in-law Dale Meyers, and numerous close relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy J. Pierce.
Steve graduated from Mark Morris High School in Longview and began a career of rebuilding and remodeling homes, having started an apprenticeship with his father Roy. He worked through the years on his parents’ rentals, while buying and maintaining his own rentals. Steve developed a competency for finish work to the point of perfection.
At one time, Steve was married to Laurie Phillips and helped raise her daughter Shana Misner. Having no children of his own, Steve grew to love Shana, and also Shana’s daughter Elaina, very much. At a later period in his life, Steve had the companionship of Kim Stembridge for many years.
At an early age, Steve became fascinated with trains, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. He collected many model train parts for years, and made a railroad in his home in a very creative way. He built a track around his upper living room walls, extending out from the house onto a flat part of the roof, and going back inside. People who stopped in to visit, enjoyed watching the train travel around the room. The neighbors outside were delighted to see the train appear and reappear on the roof, following its laid out track.
Steve had many friends, but those that were closest since school days were Will Olsen and Steve Keck. Another close friend, Jay Cecconi, became his business partner.
Most of his adult life, Steve had other important companions he loved: his Pugs! He was a dog’s ‘best friend,’ and they were always with him wherever he went.
Steve had a big interest in salt water aquariums and for years, kept his large tanks full of beautiful fish that fascinated visitors who stopped by.
Being an all-around handy man, Steve was often called to help fix problems at people’s homes, especially his mom’s. From electrical to plumbing to carpentry---and more---he took care of many problems that arose. He was a dedicated son and was always there for her. Keeping her house in order was a priority.
Steve had a passion for fireworks! Every Fourth of July, he accumulated many of them and spent the holiday shooting them off to entertain the neighborhood. Every year they enjoyed the spectacular show he gave. On the eve before his passing, his faithful friends displayed them in honor of Steve. Every Fourth of July will forever be a heartfelt remembrance of how he loved to celebrate it.
Steve was a quiet, private person. When one got to know him, his kindhearted and helpful ways could be readily seen and appreciated. Warm eyes and a smile, as well as a dry sense of humor, made him enjoyable to be around. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
There are no plans for an immediate memorial for Steve. His celebration of life will take place at a later time.
