(BOYER) GRIFFITH

Valerie Corrine Griffith passed away peacefully at home in Vancouver, WA. She was born December 6, 1934, in Garrison, ND to Wanda Marschke and Harry Boyer. She moved with her family to the Vancouver area in 1936 where she later attended Salmon Creek Elementary School, Shumway Middle School, graduated from Vancouver High School in 1952. In February 1953, she married a career Air Force NCO, Ronald Griffith, and in January 1960, they had a daughter. As a military wife, she traveled extensively and lived in several states plus overseas in Okinawa, Japan. In June 1968, they settled in Tucson, AZ, where her husband retired from active duty. As a Department of the Air Force civilian employee, she worked in various accounting, administration, clerical, and supervisory positions within the accounting and finance, civil engineering, communications, and supply fields. She was the quality assurance manager, Accounting and Finance Office, Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ for nine years. She retired in April 1988 after 32 years of civil service. In May 2000, she returned to Vancouver, WA and purchased a home in Salmon Creek.
Valerie was interested in genealogy and created a family tree extending back seven generations. She enjoyed reading, swimming, cooking, gardening, and several computer games, especially Scrabble and Text Twist.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Smart; sisters: Mavis Jamison and Wanda Schmidt; brothers: Wes and Harvey Boyer; plus many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Ronald Griffith; parents, Harry and Wanda Boyer; sister, Yvonne Beebe; and brothers, Bryce, Harry, and Paul Boyer.
