Warren Duane Wend

November 10, 1928 — November 11, 2023

Longview

Warren Duane Wend left this world Nov. 11, 2023, the day after his 95th birthday. He left behind people who love him and a legacy of dedication and accomplishment.

Duane enlisted in the Marine Corps in WWII and joined the army reserves upon completion of his enlistment.  Duane was an electrician for Weyerhaeuser at Headquarters Shop prior to working for the International Woodworkers of America (IWA) from 1973 to 1992 where he served as Business Agent, Vice President and President,  always working for the members.  After retirement from the union, he worked for the Justice Department for another 3 years.

As a master gardener, Duane loved gardening, woodworking, football and people. He was known as the Tomato Man at the Farmer’s Market where he worked to build and sell at the market for 25 years. Duane continued to provide tomato plants to family and friends up to and including this past growing season.

Most important to him was his family. Duane was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores; and a daughter, Debra.

He is survived by a daughter, Janet Hughes; three granddaughters, Sara Hogarth, Melody Gibson, and Michelle Wend; and five wonderful great-grandchildren who will forever cherish his memory and the values he instilled in them.

A graveside service is planned for 1 p.m. Nov. 22 at Longview Memorial Park. Steele Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or charity of choice.
